Principal usage: The GGBN Loan Vocabulary is meant to be used with a 1:many relation for 1 specimen, tissue, or DNA record. Within a Darwin Core-Archive implementation it can be used with both the Occurrence Core and the new defined Material Sample Core. Within ABCD please use the ABCDGGBN implementation. GGBN requirements and recommendations for usage and example content will follow soon.

Description: These terms have been developed for specific GGBN purposes but can be used in a broader context. The loan vocabulary terms are specific to the aspects of loaning information on specimens, tissue or DNA samples. The vocabulary is still under review. We appreciate any input or feedback. To do so please contact the GGBN secretariat at ggbn[at]si.edu. Please visit also the discussion page.

Notes: From the perspective of the owner of materials, loans can be characterized as incoming (also can be called “borrows”) or outgoing. The party providing access is thus the lender, and the party receiving access is the borrower. Lenders send outgoing loans, borrowers receive incoming loans.
