User Evaluation

Vocabulary Management Task Group (VoMaG) members and other users are most welcome to provide evaluation of the Vocabulary Wiki here. Please focus your user evaluation on the suitability of the Semantic Wiki as a tool to develop and maintain RDF Vocabularies of basic concepts.

The Semantic MediaWiki platform was one of the early recommendations proposed by ViBRANT partners to support the collaborative development of RDF Vocabularies of basic terms. A demo instance of the Semantic Wiki was installed for testing purposes here at http://kos.gbif.org/wiki/. The initial testing of the Vocabulary Wiki indicates a well-suited and flexible tool for describing and defining vocabulary terms and concepts. Each term is defined by a separate Wiki page and annotated by semantic markup. The Semantic Wiki software provides features to easily extract the RDF description of individual terms as well as a group of terms. It is easy to import terms defined by external RDF vocabularies and it is easy to provide specific URIs from “external” namespaces as identifiers for the terms. However, the exported RDF might require further work as the export includes many annotation properties automatically generated by the Semantic Wiki that might be undesired. Exported RDF could be “automatically” cleaned using XSLT transformation mechanisms. The Semantic Wiki interface is easy to use and is therefore likely to lower the barrier for domain experts without experience with KOS management software tools to contribute. --Dag Endresen 10:08, 11 April 2012 (CEST)
